About Our Founder
Sarah Landry Riley Scott
Camp Empowerment was established and founded by Mrs. Sarah Scott in 2008 with the assistance of her co-founders, Mr. Raphineas Riley, her son, who directed the daily operations to incorporate physical activities, discipline, and the overall growth of the camp, while his wife, Mrs. Maria Riley, handled administrative tasks and developed the logo, original registration documents, other print collateral, and t-shirts for the camp. Mrs. Scott was also assisted by Mrs. Debra Robinson for daily camp operations. Her grandchildren helped form the very first campers and camp counselors.
Camp Empowerment was created to give underprivileged youths opportunity and exposure to real world experience and to obtain assistance in the areas of art, music, dance, and academic assistance. Camp Empowerment was guided by her steady hand until her earthly departure in early 2022. Her son Mr. Raphineas Riley and daughter-in-law Mrs. Maria Riley with the assistance of Mrs. Debra Robinson were directed to carry on her legacy.
With the partnership of the West Livingston Advisory Committee, campers are able to attend camp free of charge and remove the burden for those who cannot afford it. Donations are requested to help with t-shirts and awards, but no child is ever turned down. Camp Empowerment has received services through partnership with the Arts Council of Livingston Parish, who provides free services pertaining to the arts for our campers.
